Traffic Changes For Community During High School Football Season at Shea Stadium

Working in collaboration with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Schools, Douglas County Traffic Engineering, and Highlands Ranch Metro District, the following initiatives have been implemented:

  • The Sheriff’s Department will block off the Westbrook Lane entrance on high school football game evenings from approximately 6:00-10:00pm. There will be no access on Westbrook, except for emergency vehicles. The Aspen Creek Drive entrance will remain open for access to the neighborhood.
  • The 4-way traffic signal at Town Center Drive/Foothills Canyon/Aspen Creek Drive will be fully functional with pedestrian activated crossing buttons.

Traffic Management Plan for Football Games at Shea Stadium

Problem: In the past, over 150 vehicles illegally parked along Town Center Drive. This created a very dangerous situation as families attempted to run across Town Center Drive. Additionally, the Golf Club neighborhood was utilized for overflow parking. Many cars raced through the community, parked illegally and emergency equipment could not access the neighborhood.

Two newly built parking lots, a master traffic flow plan, five deputies on duty, 80 traffic cones, electronic message boards, and strict ticketing enforcement in No Parking Zones as well as the actions detailed above will be utilized.

While the road closure is a slight inconvenience, it will substantially increase safety in our neighborhood, as well as ensure emergency vehicle access.

Thank you for your support of improved safety in the Highlands Ranch Golf Club community.
