NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH TIPS FOR SAFE HOLIDAYS

Running/unattended vehicles could be ticketed:  Note CO Revised Statutes 42-4-1206 that it is illegal for vehicles to be on and unattended.  The Sheriff’s Office will enforce this law in an effort to reduce crime where vehicles have been invaded and/or stolen.

Stay out of the way of emergency vehicles. Follow the rules of the road to give personnel room to work and to stay safe.

Keep your door closed to strangers.  Authorized vendors will have an approved Douglas County badge to show they have registered with the county.

Slow down speed within the community. Residents are pulling out of short driveways. Children may at any time be near or in the street playing or waiting. Resident home improvements may result in extra vehicles/dumpsters in the street, requiring vehicles to navigate around them. CAUTION!

Garage doors should be closed if the garage is unattended.

Mail should be picked up before nightfall from kiosks. Outgoing mail should be placed in a regulation PO BOX. Consider a PO Box for incoming bills and important documents.  Identity theft is the fastest growing crime in America.

Report suspicious activity immediately to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.  Response time is fast.  No call will be viewed as unimportant.

LET’S STAY SAFE!

Greetings From Your Neighborhood Watch - July 2009 Updates

There have been some vandalism incidents and a stolen bike in the past thirty days within our community.  Summer is always a peak period for incidents.  Everyone please keep alert for any suspicious behavior and keep all property secure within your garages and homes.

We can deter criminals from our community immediately buy reducing our risk.  By removing valuables and locking our cars, criminals will move to a more accessible location.  Remember, move of our cars have garage door openers which will give criminals access to your homes.  It is important to also lock your car in the garage and lock the door from the garage to the house.

The current 35 Neighborhood Watch Block Captain volunteers in our community and I wish you a great spring and early summer season.  This is such a great time to connect with neighbors, exchange information and have some fun! We need three more Block Captains to have our neighborhood 100% covered.  In you are interested please contact Aldis Sides at neighborhoodwatch@hrgchoa.com or 720-344-9278.

Immediate issues of concern, including Crime Updates and Fraud Alerts will be e-mailed to you directly by your Block Captain.  Also be sure to periodically check the HRGCA website for timely issues which may threaten our properties and/or families.

Our 700 family community has stayed strong against crime through block meetings, email updates, communications in the HOA newsletter, and annual Community Evening Presentations featuring speakers on crime. Neighborhood Watch is beginning its seventh year in our community!  Hats Off to our forty-one Block Captains who volunteer to keep us informed.

Please let us know if you are not getting the periodic Crime Update emails which are circulated when we have information about crime trends.  Together, we can keep our families safe and our properties secure!

Watch the construction of the Highlands Ranch Sheriff’s Office Substation, east of the Highlands Ranch Town Center complex, which will be a wonderful resource for our community.

Accomplishments of Your Neighborhood Watch:  Great Job Block Captains!

  • Closer connections with the Sheriff’s Office on some neighborhood incidents where we conducted “stand up meetings” with deputies at the site for more clarification;
  • Information recognition by the Sheriff who repeatedly mentions our community at public meetings to emphasize the power of citizens to avert crime;
  • A dedicated Neighborhood Watch page on the HRGCA website at www.hrgchoa.com to communicate with the neighborhood on a timely basis about issues in our community and upcoming meetings or events;
  • The Fourth Annual HRGCA Community Neighborhood Watch Evening Presentation held last spring, featuring the Douglas County Sheriff, Deputies and the Eighteenth Judicial staff to discuss crime prevention and consumer tips;
    Attendance of the HRGCA Block Captains at the Annual Spring Training at the Lincoln substation;
  • The increased efforts to welcome new residents to the community and collect their email addresses to widen our network of Neighborhood Watch participants.
  • Reporting of suspicious activity immediately to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office or to the Neighborhood Watch Chair or Block Captain.  No call is viewed as unimportant.
